چکیده

We propose to utilize confocal Raman spectroscopy combined with high resolution atomic force microscopy (AFM) for nondestructive characterisation of the sidewalls of etched and passivated small pixel (24μm×24μm) focal plane arrays (FPA) fabricated using LW/LWIR InAs/GaSb type-II strained layer superlattice (T2SL) detector material. Special high aspect ratio Si and GaAs AFM probes, with tip length of 13μm and tip aperture less than 7◦, allow characterisation of the sidewall morphology. Confocal microscopy enables imaging of the sidewall profile through optical sectioning. Raman spectra measured on etched T2SL FPA single pixels enable us to quantify the non-uniformity of the mesa delineation process.

Passivation of W-structured type-II superlattice long-wave infrared photodiodes

A critical step in developing type-II superlattice (T2SL) based LWIR focal plane array (FPA) technology is to achieve high performance levels in FPA pixel-sized devices having 20-40 μm pitch. At this scale, device performance tends to be limited by surface effects along mesa sidewalls which are etched to provide pixel isolation. While control of surface leakage has been achieved for MWIR T2SLs,...

Catalyst of Ni and Co dependencies for carbon nanotube synthesis by CVD method

In this research, the effect of catalyst type on the CNTs synthesis was investigated. The carbonnanotubes (CNTs) were produced on stainless steel substrates and two of catalyst with differentcharacteristics by using Thermal chemical vapor deposition (TCVD) method. The catalysts have theimportant role for the growth carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Acetylene gas (C2H2) diluted by NH3 wasused as the reac...

Tip in–light on: Advantages, challenges, and applications of combining AFM and Raman microscopy on biological samples

Scanning probe microscopies and spectroscopies, especially AFM and Confocal Raman microscopy are powerful tools to characterize biological materials. They are both non-destructive methods and reveal mechanical and chemical properties on the micro and nano-scale. In the last years the interest for increasing the lateral resolution of optical and spectral images has driven the development of new ...

Hydrocarbons in phlogopite from Kasenyi kamafugitic rocks (SW Uganda): cross-correlated AFM, confocal microscopy and Raman imaging

This study presents a cross-correlated surface and near surface investigation of two phlogopite polytypes from Kasenyi kamafugitic rocks (SW Uganda) by means of advanced Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), confocal microscopy and Raman micro-spectroscopy. AFM revealed comparable nanomorphology and electrostatic surface potential for the two mica polytypes. A widespread presence of nano-protrusions l...
